         High cholesterol levels are believed to lead to heart conditions and early death. Statin drugs to lower LDL cholesterol are prescribed to more than 13 million Americans, and almost all men over the age of 60. Research published in the Annals of Nutrition & Metabolism in April 2015 now shows that, as you age, having high cholesterol is beneficial. The research, which was conducted in Japan, showed that people with the highest cholesterol levels had the lowest mortality rate from heart disease. The report states, "mortality actually goes down with higher total or low density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol levels, as reported by most Japanese epidemiological studies of the general population."

Rich travel to Bangkok for banquet

The obscenely rich are gathering in Bangkok this weekend for a gala dinner at the Dome restaurant prepared by six three-star Michelin chefs. The meal will cost 1 million baht, or about US$29,000, per person plus tax and tip. Deepak Ohri, managing director of the Dome restaurant, says the diners will travel from Asia, Europe, the Middle East and the Untied States, and will include shipping, real estate and gaming magnates. Profits from the dinner will go to charity. Tthe main motive behind it will be to showcase Thailand as an upmarket tourism destination and investment target, Ohri said.

Elephants block Thai highway

Elephants have recently been seen blocking a highway often used by produce trucks in Thailand that runs through the Ang Lue Nai wildlife reserve. Produce truck drivers say the animals head-butted their vehicles when they could not get to the goods they were carrying. "Sometimes the whole elephant herd, six or seven of them, stand in middle of the road... some of them try to pull sugar canes from the lorry, when they cannot, they just break the wind shield," said driver Puern Meksan. Officials at the natural reserve have imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew on the road.
